Nicoletta della Valle is one of Switzerland’s most senior public security officials, with over three decades of experience in law enforcement, legal policy, and federal administration. From 2014 to 2025, she served as Director of the Federal Office of Police (fedpol), where she oversaw a national organization of over 1,100 employees and a CHF 250 million budget. Under her leadership, FedPol led key missions in combating serious crime, safeguarding national institutions, and managing cross-border law enforcement cooperation, including representation on major national and international security committees.
Before becoming director, she held senior leadership roles at FedPol and other public institutions. These included serving as Deputy Director and Head of Resources at Fedpol, overseeing finance, HR, procurement, and strategic infrastructure. She also served as Director of Services and Operations at the University Psychiatric Services Bern, and earlier, as Head of the Finance Department for the City of Bern. Her career reflects deep expertise in internal security, public administration, and policy enforcement across multiple domains, including police legislation and covert investigations.
Nicoletta holds a law degree (magna cum laude) from the University of Bern, complemented by advanced leadership training at the Swiss Police Institute and postgraduate studies in association and nonprofit management. She brings a unique blend of legal insight, operational command, and cross-border coordination experience that makes her a strategic advisor in national security, policing, and state-level governance.
